You see how you buy a new gadget and it comes with a manual. A manual is a document from the manufacturer showing and explaining how to use and maintain the gadget for optimum benefits from it.
Most people usually, do not read the manual and wind up paying exorbitant prices for damages or wind up paying extra installation fees. When you read the gadget’s manual you are able to get the best out of the functionalities of your gadget and also have an even better experience using the gadget. The gadget is also able to last longer because of proper maintenance.
I believe that the Bible is our manual from God. Who better to tell us why we were created than our creator. The Bible details what God had in mind when creating us, how we ought to live our lives and God’s vision for our lives. In this article, we are going to explore the reasons why I believe every human being should read the bible.
Do you want a happy marriage? Do you want to overcome self-destructive behaviours? Do you want to have healthy relationships? You want to have a successful career?…name it! All the answers are found in the Bible. The Bible is a treasure! In fact, there is nothing the word of God does not give guidance about.
2 Peter 1:20-21 NLT says Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God. spoke from God.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT says All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
The word of God is written by different authors. You find different books written by different authors but giving the same account of things. The scriptures complement each other and do not contradict each other. The disciples of Jesus- Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John narrate Jesus’s life from their own experience and interactions with him and they do not contradict.
If you want to get into fine details about the credibility of the Bible, I recommend watching this insightful video
To obtain salvation one has to hear the good news which is the word of God. Somebody has to preach to you or share the gospel with you- it can be by speech or by actions when they live out the word of God and thus win souls-make disciples for Jesus Christ. You are saved and converted from a sinner into a Christian by confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. Romans 10:9 NIV says If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
1 Peter 1:23 NIV says For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
Watch this testimony on the power of God’s word
When you become saved you become a new creation. You have a new spirit; the holy spirit comes and lives in you. The holy spirit enables you to live a godly life, Impacting the people around you with love and good works, living a blameless life and hence winning souls for the kingdom of God
To live a perfect life you only need the holy spirit who is your helper, counselor, and comforter, He guides you and leads you to all truth. He reveals to you things that make you live an abundant life if you are diligent to listen to him and obey.
2 Peter 1:3 NIV says His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
1 Corinthians 2:12 Says What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.
The Bible is jam-packed with wisdom. God is all-wise and the bible pours out wisdom to your soul. Just like they say you become like who you hang out with. Reading the bible is actually hanging out with God and you become godly and wise as you meditate upon scriptures. The book of Proverbs written by King Solomon who was the wisest person who ever lived is full of wisdom- teachings, lessons, and advice which is life-changing.
Psalm 19:7 NLT says The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
Studying God’s word gives you knowledge. The application of this knowledge brings wisdom. It makes you wiser than your age and even people in high positions.
Psalm 119:98-100 NIV says Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide. Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your laws. I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments.
Psalm 119:104 NLT says Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life.
Proverbs 1:5 NLT says Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance
Psalm 119:130 NIV The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
Psalm 119:144 NIV Your statutes are always righteous; give me understanding that I may live.
No man can see his hidden faults and errors, the word of God is like a mirror, it shows us how we are and the changes we need to make in our lives in order to become better people. The word of God judges the thoughts and attitudes of your heart. It puts our sins before us.
Psalm 19:12-13 NLT says How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin.
Hebrews 4:12 ESV says For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Psalm 119:133 NLT says Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.
The word of God is truth. It is inspired by the holy spirit. The authors did not write it from their own wisdom or knowledge but were all led by the holy spirit. It is as though God is speaking directly to you through the author.
John 8:32 NLT says And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 17:17 NLT says Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.
When you hear the word of God, read it, study it and meditate on it, your mind is set free. Chains and bondages are broken. The word of God has power. You are able to distinguish between the lie the devil has told you and the truth that is God’s word. The devil’s natural language is lying, he is the father of lies
John 8:44 NIV says You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
When you read the bible, you replace the lies you were told with the truth and are set free!
Those who love God obey his commandments. God delights in obedience more than sacrifice. By obeying God’s word you are blessed and receive a great reward. Just like a father delights in a wise and obedient son who brings him honour, God also delights in his obedient children who honour him and love him and in return blesses them and rewards them greatly.
James 1:25 NLT says But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
Psalm 19:9 NLT says Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.
John 15:14 NLT says You are my friends if you do what I command.
The bible is a beautiful love story of God and mankind. It demonstrates God’s love towards mankind since creation – the purpose God created man was to have relationship and intimacy. God gives man authority and dominion over everything on earth. God creates man in His own image and likeness- a man is a “god” on earth.
Earth is the realm that man operates as “god” and heaven is God’s dominion. Through a relationship with God, man is able to make heaven come down on earth. The devil deceives eve and she eats the fruit they were forbidden by God and also gives it to Adam. They fall in the curse, as a result, are chased away from the Garden of Eden so that they could not eat the fruit of life and death and live forever in their sinful nature. The relationship between God and man is broken.
God has a plan to reconcile man to him and restore the relationship as it was from the beginning and save man from the curse that was as a result of his sin. He sends his only son Jesus Christ who is conceived by the power of the holy spirit by the Virgin Mary. He grows up and fulfils his life’s purpose- to destroy the devil’s work and reconcile man to God.
Jesus is crucified and dies a gruesome death for the sins of mankind. He descends to the dead and takes the keys of life and death. He saves the saints and preaches to the spirits in prison. God loved the world so much that he gave his most prized possession- his only son that however believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 NLT says “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT says For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
2 Corinthians 8:9 NLT says You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.
We are the body of Christ – the church and we are Jesus Christ’s bride. Jesus is the groom and he will come for us his bride. We ought to get ourselves ready for the coming of Jesus just like the parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25-1-13.
Revelation 19:7 NIV says Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.
Revelation 22:17 NLT says The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.
God created the heavens, the earth and everything in it using his word. The word of God is living and active. It is super-powerful and must accomplish its intended purpose. The bible is not like any other book – educational, historical, magazines, newspapers, ebooks etc. The bible is full of power as it contains the life of God. The scriptures change your life completely. That is why it is called the good news!
John 6:63 NLT says The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
John 1:1-5 NLT says In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
John 1:14 NLT says So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
The word is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to God is through Jesus Christ; by accepting him in your heart and believing that he is the son of God you are saved and gain eternal life.
John 14:6 NLT says Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
The bible will never run out of style or fashion. It is jam-packed with wisdom. The same principles apply today – times change and generations change but the principles to live by for success, prosperity, abundance, and fulfillment never change! All things will pass away but the word of God will endure forever.
Psalm 119:160 NIV says All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.
Matthew 24:35 NIV says Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Psalm 119:89 NIV says Your word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.
Psalm 119:152 NIV says Long ago I learned from your statutes that you established them to last forever.
The Bible was inspired by God. No prophecy had its origin from man but they spoke as they were led by the holy spirit.
2 Timothy 3:16 NLT says All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
2 Peter 1:20 NLT says Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.
You see the same way the words of people have different authority, for example, the president of your country may make a statement or order and action is taken immediately concerning what they said but you may say the exact same words the president said but nothing happens. Jesus Christ has all the authority. Matthew 28:18 NIV says Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
John 1:14 NLT says So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
Psalm 138:2 KJV says I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
Numbers 23:19 NLT says God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?
God created the world and everything in it using his word. God spoke and it came to be. The bible has that same power and authority because the Bible contains words spoken by God.
Genesis 1:3 NIV says And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 6 And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.”9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so.11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years,20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so.26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
The power of God’s word is demonstrated through creation and in the valley of dry bones in the Book of Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 37 Ezekiel is brought into the valley
Ezekiel 37:1 NIV says The hand of the LORD was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones.2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign LORD, you alone know.”4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!5 This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.'”7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.'”10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet–a vast army.
When you speak the word of God from the Bible into any situation in your life with faith you witness miracles and wondrous things.
This is where we find joy. This is where we learn how to find joy. God lays it up for us in his scriptures. The bible is the way for joy- this is the way you find it and how you keep it. If you are lacking joy in any way definitely search the scriptures.
Psalm 119:111-112 NIV says Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.
Proverbs 10:28 NIV says The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
John 15:11 NLT says I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!
1 Peter 1:8 NIV says Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
Romans 15:13 NLT says I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Philemon 1:7 NLT says Your love has given me much joy and comfort, my brother, for your kindness has often refreshed the hearts of God’s people.
If you read, study, meditate on and obey God’s word you experience the peace of God that surpasses human understanding.
Psalm 119:165 NIV says Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.
Isaiah 26:3 NLT says You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
By meditating on God’s word, you fix your thoughts on God, you experience perfect peace. By fixing your mind on God’s promises you experience peace and rest. Biblical meditation gets rid of worry and anxiety and you, therefore, experience peace. You are not afraid of the future because you know who holds your future.
The bible helps us to distinguish good from evil and we are able to keep away from sin.
The word of God shows you what is right and what is wrong, what is righteous and what is sin. By knowing the difference, you are able to stay away from sin.
Psalm 119:11 NLT says I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
We are living in a day and age where people are calling evil good and good evil and not referring to the word of God as the ultimate truth for their lives. Obviously non-Christians but Christians too are victims. We really have to look to scriptures to see what God says about every particular subject pertaining to life and godliness. It’s there in Bible and he will tell us what is good and what is evil and that should be our standard for life. How are we going to know whether something is good or evil and how we should feel about it and we don’t even know what God’s word says about it? It’s really important to know what God’s word says so that whenever lies, deception and evil are facing us we can say NO and stand on the word of God.
Isaiah 5:20 NLT says What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.
Psalm 119:172 NIV says May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous.
Psalm 119:124 NIV says Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees.125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.126 It is time for you to act, LORD; your law is being broken.127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.
1 John 3:7 NLT says Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous.
As human beings, we get to believe and live with the human reasoning that we have grown to observe, that we have been taught and experienced. These are obstacles that keep people from knowing God; by studying and meditating on God’s word we capture these rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:4 NIV says The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Sin starts from our thoughts. Our eyes and ears are the gateways to our minds. What we feed our minds through our senses – things we watch, listen to and taste leads to desires and action which leads to death.
James 1:14 NLT says Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
John 17:17 NIV says Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
Biblical meditation cleanses your thoughts and sets you free from addictions such as pornography, jealousy, bitterness, anger…everything!
If you are struggling with financial debt, pornography, substance abuse…anything! You just need to find scriptures concerning your area of struggle and start meditating on them. You need be having scriptures you are standing on for whatever trouble you are facing in life. If you have a sickness, meditate on verses on healing and believe that it can happen for you.
The word of God can sustain you on your sickbed. It is food for the spirit. The word of God gives life to the body because the spirit of a man gives life to the body.
Psalm 119:175 NIV says Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me.
Matthew 4:4 NLT says But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”
Proverbs 18:14 NIV says The human spirit can endure in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?
The devil is our greatest enemy and he has a strategy to fight us. Reading the bible lets us know how the devil attacks us and the weapons we use to fight him.
2 Corinthians 2:10-11 NLT says When you forgive this man, I forgive him, too. And when I forgive whatever needs to be forgiven, I do so with Christ’s authority for your benefit, so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.
Let go of anger
Ephesians 4:26-27 NLT says And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
Deception is the act of hiding the truth, especially to get an advantage.
Satan deceives Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.
Genesis 3:1 NIV says Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
He deceives them and they eat the fruit of wisdom and God found out after they hid and told him that they were naked.
Genesis 3:13 NLT says Then the LORD God asked the woman, “What have you done?” “The serpent deceived me,” she replied. “That’s why I ate it.”
John 8:44 AMP says You are of your father the devil, and it is your will to practice the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks what it natural to him, for he is a liar and the father of lies and half-truths.
1 John 3:10 AMP says By this the children of God and the children of the devil are clearly identified: anyone who does not practice righteousness [who does not seek God’s will in thought, action, and purpose] is not of God, nor is the one who does not [unselfishly] love his [believing] brother.
John 10:10 AMP says The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].
Ephesians 6:16 NLT says In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
1 John 4:1 NLT says Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.
2 Corinthians 11:14 NLT says But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
2 Timothy 1:7 NLT says For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
The opposite of God is not the devil as many people tend to think and believe. God created the devil as well as all the angels. The devil is a heavenly being that was cast out from heaven because of rebellion and he took some angels with him who also rebelled. The devil is more like the archangel Michael who cast him out of heaven.
Reading the bible lets us know the inheritance that is ours as sons of God and co-heirs with Christ. It enables us to know the authority we have on his earth like gods.
Our new identity as children of God comes with a lot of free things which we know about by studying and meditating on scriptures.
Psalm 82:6 NLT says I say, ‘You are gods; you are all children of the Most High.
1 Corinthians 2:12 NIV says What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.
All the recipes and secrets of living a successful and prosperous life lie in the bible. By obeying God’s word you have a successful and prosperous life.
Joshua 1:7-9 NLT says Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
Psalm 1:1 NLT says Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
Watch this video of Steven K. Scott the author of a book called The Greatest Words Ever Spoken who became a millionaire by reading proverbs
The word of God is all-powerful and has healing power. When you believe and meditate on healing scriptures you receive healing – the word of God contains the God-life. Sickness is not part of the God-life but healing is. By standing on the authority of the word of God you can rebuke sickness in your body and claim the healing from scriptures. Your soul and body are healed.
Psalm 107:20 NLT says He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.
Jeremiah 17:14 NLT says O LORD, if you heal me, I will be truly healed; if you save me, I will be truly saved. My praises are for you alone!
Watch this testimony about a man who received healing through meditating on God’s word.
The word of God contains the knowledge of God (his character, plans, thoughts and way of doing things). It is in your reading the word and meditating on it that you have a deeper revelation of God. You get to know God deeper. You get to understand his love, goodness, faithfulness, grace, power and mercy deeper and in doing so your intimacy and relationship get deeper. By reading the bible get the knowledge of God and your faith is strengthened. In knowing God you are able to do mighty things because you know of his power.
Daniel 11:32b KJV says but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.and do exploits.
David knowing God made him defeat Goliath. Daniel was able to shut the mouths of lions in the den, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego overcame flames of fire……
Hebrews 11:32 NIV says How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and all the prophets. By faith, these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight.
Psalm 112:1-2 NLT says Praise the LORD! How joyful are those who fear the LORD and delight in obeying his commands. Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed.
The word of God transforms you into a new person by changing the way you think and hence the way you live. They say you become like those you hang out with. When you read and study God’s word, you are actually hanging out with God. You are conformed to the image of Christ. You become more like God and have his character which makes you reign in life!
Romans 12:2 NIV says Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Proverbs 3:1 says My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.
Proverbs 4:20 NLT says My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.
Proverbs 16:24 NLT says Pleasant words are like honey–sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
When you read the bible, it fills you with positive thoughts, you get positive vibes and you become optimistic. It is a beacon of hope and it gives you a cheerful heart.
Proverbs 17:22 NIV says A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Psalm 19:8a NIV says The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart.
Romans 10:17 NLT says So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.
The Bible is God directly speaking to you. When you hear the word about Christ your faith is increased. Your faith should be grounded on nothing other than God’s word; because God’s word is truth: it is perfect, flawless, it is trustworthy.
Hebrews 11 commonly referred to as the hall of faith explains what faith is, how it works and gives numerous examples of heroes of faith such as Abraham, Daniel, Abel, Enoch, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab…and so many more.
Hebrews 11:6 NLT says And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
That is the most elemental and foundational reason why we read the bible. To know God more – the more we know God the more we understand who he says he is not who we as humans or my mama, grandma, papa, grandpa, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife; whoever says God is. You have to know who God says he is and we find that in the word of God. So we just get a basic understanding of the faith which in turn grows our faith. So, if you want to grow your faith read the word of God daily.
2 Peter 3:18 NLT says Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.
1 Peter 2:2-3 NLT says Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.
Ephesians 4:15 NIV says Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
Mark 4:20 NLT says And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”

Your relationships, your career, how to overcome self-destructive behaviors, how to overcome addictions- sex, pornography, food, gambling, alcohol and substance abuse… name it! how to get unstuck from sexual sin, how to get out of debt, how to live a healthy life, how to use your tongue, how to use your body etc. The bible has all the answers to all the questions that you have. Psalm 119:105 NLT says Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
The word of God sheds light in all the dark areas of your life. The areas of your life that you are struggling in, the bible is able to bring light into them and help you overcome and conquer. When you meditate and give yourself to the word of God you make progress because it changes you from the inside out.
1 Timothy 4:15 NIV says Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.
Merely reading the word of God is not enough. Gathering knowledge is also not enough. Memorizing verses only affects the heart, not the spirit. For the word to penetrate the spirit and take effect, we need to reason, to use our mind, to think deeply about it, to meditate on it. And it’s no use to meditate on it if you don’t practice it. The diligent are the ones who apply themselves, are dedicated, and eagerly fight to do so. The idea is to “surrender your life completely”. Paul advised Timothy to meditate on or think deeply about the word he had received, to be diligent, to submit to it, to make every effort to put it into practice. The word only becomes alive when you meditate on it. Only when you practice it will everyone see your progress. This is what it is to live by faith.
No need to pay a shrink or a counselor who also has struggles in their life. The Bible counsels you – just google verses in the area of your struggle whether it is relationships, depression, financial achievement, success, health, and nutrition…anything! And start meditating upon them and give yourself entirely to them then you will see your life turn around and make progress.
Psalm 119:24 NIV says Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.
In the midst of trials, troubles, persecutions, sorrow, and pain the word of God will always give you comfort.
Psalm 119:52 NIV says I remember, LORD, your ancient laws, and I find comfort in them.
Psalm 119:92 NIV says If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.93 I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life.
Psalm 119:96 NIV says To all perfection I see a limit, but your commands are boundless.
Psalm 119:143 NIV says Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight.
The bible is a solid source of hope, motivation, and inspiration.
Psalm 119:114 NLT says You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope.
Psalm 119:147 NLT says I rise early, before the sun is up; I cry out for help and put my hope in your words.
The word of God gives you hope to face tomorrow. It gives you strength to face your challenges. God’s promises which are more than 6,000 about your life give you hope. They make you optimistic about the future; you are able to overcome today’s challenges because you know what is in store for you in the future.
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV says For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead. Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.
Isaiah 40:30 NLT says Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. 31 But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished.
Zephaniah 3:17 says For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” “I will gather you who mourn for the appointed festivals; you will be disgraced no more. And I will deal severely with all who have oppressed you. I will save the weak and helpless ones; I will bring together those who were chased away. I will give glory and fame to my former exiles, wherever they have been mocked and shamed.
Isaiah 61:3 NLT says To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the LORD has planted for his own glory.
Watch a testimony on The Promise of Proverbs 13
We need to have a big view of God. If our view of God is finite and not infinite there is a problem. We need to be in awe of God’s power. If we are bringing him down to human level then that’s not going to work because we are making a false God, a humanized God, fleshly God. NO!!! We have to look at the scriptures to see and to remember to be in awe of God’s power. When we know how powerful God is it changes our lives in so many ways. If you are like in a dry season or you feel like God is far or maybe you are losing heart for the Lord a little bit, you should go and read about God’s power and let it put you in awe.
Exodus 15:6 NIV says Your right hand, LORD, was majestic in power. Your right hand, LORD, shattered the enemy.
Ephesians 3:10 NLT says God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.
Matthew 10:28 NLT says “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
John 10:28-29 NLT says I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.
I cannot be able to explain how powerful God’s word is. I heard Pat Roberson interview reinhard bonnke on the CBN about the miracles he had performed and he gave some examples and said I heard God tell me that My word is just as powerful coming from your mouth just as mine.
That hit me so hard and got me thinking about Ezekiel and the valley of dry bones
Ezekiel 37:1 NLT says The LORD took hold of me, and I was carried away by the Spirit of the LORD to a valley filled with bones. He led me all around among the bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground and were completely dried out. Then he asked me, “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?” “O Sovereign LORD,” I replied, “you alone know the answer to that.” Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the LORD! This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.'” So I spoke this message, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons. Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them. Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so they may live again.'” So I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet–a great army.
I realized that God’s words from the Bible are not our own words. These are words spoken by God himself.
Numbers 23:19 NIV says God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
God values his word so much. A person is only good as his word, God is not a man. God honours his word above everything else. God is articulate in what he says; he does not speak idle talk or carelessly. God does not mix words he is slow to speak, and he is not slow in fulfilling his promise. Every word that comes out of God’s mouth becomes law. God’s word is perfect, trustworthy, eternal, powerful, radiant, trustworthy, living, active and flawless!
Psalm 138:2 Study Bible says I will bow down toward Your holy temple and give thanks to Your name for Your loving devotion and Your faithfulness; You have exalted Your name and Your word above all else.
